The Hotel Fortina is located in the heart of Sliema, Malta's most popular town besides Valletta, the Capital City. The Hotel Fortina is on the water's edge and overlooks Valletta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Fortina is a few metres away from Malta's newest up-market residency, Tigne Point. Malta's newest and largest shopping complex is just a few meters away. A Ferry boat operating to Valletta departs 200 metres away from the Resort. This trip takes five minutes and therefore, it could not be easier for you to visit the Island's Capital City.

The greatest advantage of staying at the Hotel Fortina is that one may relax and reenergise and also enjoy the town-life of Sliema. The Fortina offers the best of both worlds.

A brief History

The Hotel Fortina is a family run business that was first opened with 65 rooms in 1966. It was then expanded in 1978 and again 1989. Within this time, the La Vallette Restaurant, Cocktail Bar and Lido bar and swimming pools area was built and opened. In 1996, the deluxe wing was built and an extra 77 rooms were opened, along with Thalasso Spa Mediterranee. Up until this point, the Hotel Fortina was run with two restaurants; La Vallette Buffet Restaurant and the Ristorante Tigné, which in those days was Mangal Restaurant, and a basic beauty salon.

In 1997, the family introduced the "All-Inclusive" concept to Malta. This concept was developed to allow guests to have as much variety as possible to guests and also allowing guests to plan their budget for the holiday. All Inclusive was very much in demand at the time and was a huge success. Due to market trends, the All Inclusive trend died out and has now been phased out of the Hotel. The Hotel Fortina now offers both bed and breakfast and half board meal packages.

Due to high demand, a new five star resort was built adjacent to the Hotel Fortina. The new resort is called the Fortina Spa Resort. The World's first Therapeutic Spa Bedrooms were opened in 2004 and then five Restaurants were opened between 2005 and 2006 along with the Tower and the Belle Epoque, Hypogeum and Spa Santé areas. In 2006, the first Wellness Rooms in Europe were opened within the new Resort.

The idea behind having the Hotel Fortina and the Fortina Spa Resort adjacent to each other is the fact that those staying in the Hotel Fortina are able to make use of 5 star facilities, such as the Spa and the four Restaurants located in the Resort's Tropical Garden.
